26 years after we took on the annual Horbury Show and after an enforced gap of 2 years, the 24th Show came back with a bang. The huge attendance on the day meant added pressures all round but happily there were no reports of any issues within the park and Phoenix Rotary, well supported by members of adjoining Clubs, Wakefield Chantry Rotary and Ossett Rotary as well as many very willing volunteers, managed to ensure the day went smoothly.
With the majority of suppliers of food and drink and most of the stall holders of both commercial and community/charity stalls drawn from Horbury and the surrounding district and with the majority of attractions and performers also mainly local, the Show resumed where it left off in 2019 – seeking to fulfil its objectives of (1) providing an enjoyable, free to enter event; (2) raising money for the club’s charity trust fund while (3) working with local groups and supporters to mutual advantage.

Although disappointed that the BBMF Hurricane was prevented from providing a flypast due to the high winds on its route, the crowds were clearly well entertained with many staying to the close of the show to watch the Platinum Jubilee Parade which drew on the efforts of 250 children and adults from local schools and clubs to present a walking history of Horbury over the last 70 years accompanied by Horbury Victoria Band and music specially written for the occasion.
Barry Blakemore the incoming President of Horbury & Ossett Phoenix Rotary said that he and his club owed a substantial debt of gratitude to those who came to the show in order to enjoy themselves and to those who came to provide their invaluable help at the show. Hopefully we will see you all again on 25th June 2023 – the 25th Horbury Show.
