On Wednesday 12 March, at the Horbury Working Men's Club, representatives of local Junior Sports Teams and members of the Rotary Club of Horbury and Ossett Phoenix got together to watch Rugby League Legend Neil Fox present cash awards totalling £1550 to six local Junior Teams. The money had been raised through a Sporting Supper at Horbury WMC organised by the Rotary Club at which Mick Morgan was the main speaker and Neil Fox and fellow Trinity star of yester year Ian Brooke made up an Expert Panel to take questions from the audience.
Awards were made to Wakefield Phoenix Netball Club (kit for teams), Ossett Town Juniors FC (Kit training and first aid), Ossett Albion Girls FC (pitch hire, kit and trophies), The Friends of Netherton Village Hall(Sports Equipment), Emley Moor ARLFC (Match day equipment) and Thornes Junior FC (Coaching training).
Rotary Club President David Maynard said, "Supporting youth activities in the area has been a constant priority for the club, and sport has long been recognised as an opportunity for young people to develop citizenship qualities of self discipline and team spirit as well as aiding general health. We are very grateful again to Neil Fox for giving up his time to make the presentations."
