Phoenix Rotary Club working jointly with the Rotary Club of Ossett have presented over 523 Dictionaries to Year 2 pupils in each of 15 schools covering the Horbury, Ossett, and Sitlington areas.
Each dictionary is a personal gift to each pupil as they transition from Key Stage one to KS 2 in their school life and are for use at home and in school. Feedback from both pupils and teachers who have received the dictionaries in previous years have been very positive in encouraging the children in their literacy and reading skills and broadening their investigations away from computer based research.
Funding for the project came from both Rotary Clubs and a grant from Rotary District 1040 - organised by Rtn Tony Sargeant from the Ossett Club.
