Rotary Club of Horbury and Ossett Phoenix - Be A Hero Sponsored Walk - In support of Wakefield Hospice

The Covid pandemic has been a difficult time for many in our community and has impacted on the funding of many charities and services depending on public donations and sponsorship. Our local Hospice has continued to provide its high standard of care for its patients and their families despite a fall in income and the depletion of reserves. As we emerge from Covid lockdowns we want to help and provide an opportunity to involve our community in raising funds for the Hospice through organising our Be A Hero Walk to take place on Sunday, 19 September, 2021 between 10am to 3pm.

The event offers two walk options:

Laps of Carr Lodge Park, Horbury – each lap is just over 1 kilometre,
or
A walk from Carr Lodge Park via Benton Hill and Wakefield Road, around Thornes Park then returning to Carr Lodge Park via Thorns Moor Road and Green Lane (8.5km ie. 5.3mi)
The walks are suitable for all ages and abilities including families. There is no Registration fee but a donation to the Hospice will be welcome along with any sponsorship money walkers may be able to generate through friends and families. An easy means of donating has been set up on the Just Giving page of Wakefield Hospice with a Be A Hero event title.

Why Be A Hero?
The pandemic has seen many heroes in our community be they doctors and nurses, teachers, supermarket staff, delivery drivers, and a wide variety of volunteers, who have continued to work in often difficult circumstances to care and provide for us all. Then of course there are the ‘superheroes’ of the big screen that have entertained us. Our walkers are invited to dress up as their heroes whilst taking part in the walks to show both respect and an element of colour and fun to those who have done their bit for us – just like all at Wakefield Hospice.

Registration
Registration will open from Monday, 9 August 2021, via email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
