On Monday night, 24th January 2022, our President Bob Trout, our Youth Committee Chair Person Paul Helliwell and Stephen Brook our Community Service Committee Chair, presented the first of our Young Good Citizens Awards this year to Megan Rodd and what a very worthy recipient she is.

Megan is 14 years old and a leader at Rainbows, which is a section of the Guides movement for the very junior members. We presented her with her award at the Ossett Christ Church Community Hall, during a Rainbows meeting. She was unaware that she was to be given the Award until we presented it to her with her Mum, the Rainbows members and their other Guide Leaders present.

She was nominated by one of the Guide leaders who has known Megan since she started in Rainbows at the age of 5 and at that young age she undertook her first fundraising event completing a 3 mile walk raising £500!
She has completed many activities over the years; climbing Ben Nevis at 6, followed by Snowdon, many marathons and bike rides too.
Her fundraising total so far is over £30,000 which is fantastic for someone so young.
She is also an ambassador for the Pulse Radio Cash for Kids charity and runs a facebook page called Megan's Kindness Mission where, with the help of Mum and donations from the wider community, she distributed over 1,500 food parcels during the pandemic lockdowns.
A very worthy recipient of the award and clear demonstration of the Rotary Ideals of "Service above Self".
Congratulations Megan!
